Is bamboo really a good replacement for steel in bicycle frame construction? My goal is to design and build a bamboo bike frame and compare the process and materials with my previous experience with steel frame building. I also will be comparing the two mateirals in terms of strength, cost and availability.
Other questions I hope to address during this project are: can a multi-speed frame be made without chain-slap destroying the right chainstay? How can I attach a rear brake without braze on brake mounts? Are the resins being used to hole the bamboo tubes together safe/green, and if not can they be?
